Plastic Baby Bottles Contain the Dangerous Chemical Bisphenol A BPA

Most plastic baby bottles are made from polycarbonate plastic which contain the dangerous chemical Bisphenol A BPA. Although Bisphenol is not a new chemical (it’s been around for 40 years) we are just discovering how harmful Bisphenol A BPA is to our health.

And what has alarmed many parents is the new study that claims that when their baby’s bottle is heated up, dangerous Bisphenol A BPA actually leaches into the liquid and the baby ingests significant levels of Bisphenol.

So what exactly is Bisphenol A BPA? It is a chemical compound used to make that convenient lightweight plastic many of our drinking bottles, food containers and baby bottles are made of. For years the plastics industry has assured us that Bisphenol is a safe chemical that has no adverse affects on human health.

But recent Bisphenol a BPA studies have found that Bisphenol is a danger to our health. Bisphenol imitates estrogen and the fear is that being exposed to Bisphenol a BPA causes a long list of serious health risks. Bisphenol has been linked to breast and prostate cancer, as well as attention deficit disorder and obesity. Because Bisphenol a BPA is a hormone disruptor, it has also been blamed for the early onset of puberty in girls.

The level of Bisphenol A BPA does not increase or decrease with age. A baby bottle which has been used for years leaches the same amount of Bisphenol as a new polycarbonate bottle does. The only way to protect your baby from the harmful affects of Bisphenol A BPA is to throw out the plastic bottles and start fresh with glass bottles.
